Who Am I?
Hello,
I’m Marianne, a jack of all trades originally from the Netherlands, who has been living in Germany since 2012. I moved to Germany to study a double Masters to specialize in Archaeometallurgy, and moved on to a PhD position in Archaeology where I learned Ceramic Petrography (studying minerals in pottery under polarizing microscope, to determine provenance and technological choices).
This built on the passion I discovered for gemmology during my goldsmithing studies in Schoonhoven (the Netherlands) between 2002-2005. Studying archaeology was a dream come true for me, and I’m grateful for the positive experiences I’ve made.
I’ve always found enjoyment in serviceable and creative work, and have previously been self-employed as a clothing designer. There my motto had also been “Clothing to (re-)create history”. I’ve always enjoyed working on topics that have to do with history, memory and social ties.
In March 2024 I sat down behind the jewellers’ bench in earnest for the first time in 19 years, having only done small-scale projects in the intervening periods in-between despite having had two different jeweller benches in that time. The idea for my small business and the name came on May 1st, 2024 - and on the 2nd of May I registered my business in Germany. Soon I’m also starting work as a bench jeweller.
I really enjoyed getting back to goldsmithing and having creativity flow freely again. I constantly scribble small drawings in a booklet, and a few weeks later most of them have taken physical form. I draw a lot of inspiration from my love for the natural environment and the seasons, and this will remain an underlying theme next to more specified collections.
I’m a neurodivergent person, and momentarily I make jewellery for two collections. One is called “You’re an extension of the power that created the universe”, a quote by RuPaul., This will include a galaxy locket, a men’s ring (with black opal) amongst other things. This theme will include astronomy as well as metaphysical themes and stones that are UV-reactive (for the most part). I also have a seasonal collections, for Spring/summer 2025 I also make jewellery for the Grow& Bloom 2025 collection. These include flower themes and carved gemstones with flower patterns. This also references healing journeys with messages for the wearer. Autumn into winter will again have different sub-collections.
In-between I have some other things I work on, such as clothing for mannequins that I will take with me to the two Liebe Ist fairs, as well as more specific wedding themed jewellery. I also recently made a wedding outfit for a friend who is getting married in July 2025.
